Meet the Kushinga Self Help Group, a dynamic four-member group from Chishuku in Ward 16, Chirumanzu District. In October 2023, the four joined the Jobs Creation Project, a Hi-Hub supported group, funded by Hand in Hand Sweden. Under the group, they received a comprehensive six-modular business development training covering essential topics such as business management, market analysis, and financial record-keeping.
Before joining the project, the Kushinga members had a strong passion for farming but faced challenges due to a lack of land and water resources, limiting them to subsistence farming at home. With the support of Hi-Hub they acquired land and transitioned to horticulture farming, cultivating leafy vegetables and wheat.

Their hard work is paying off; they earn around $70 weekly from selling tomatoes, onions, covo and tsunga. Recently, they harvested 300 kg of wheat and they are anticipating a revenue of $205 from their buyer. Kushinga SHG recently sold 400 Fabiola cabbages to nearby communities, hence accumulated a revenue of $400.
Looking ahead, the Kushinga Self Help Group aims to expand their agricultural ventures by starting fish farming and a poultry business, further diversifying their income and enhancing their contributions to the community. Their journey is a testament to the power of collaboration and skill development in overcoming challenges and achieving sustainable growth.
